- An ancient Celtic people of Gallia Belgica, the Nervii lived in the vicinity of Brussels and in southern Belgium and northern France. Their capital was Bagacum (Bavay, France). The Nervii revolted against the Romans and were crushed by the armies of Julius Caesar in 57 bce. The Brussels region was ruled by Rome until the fifth century.
